Cuba- Santiago de Cuba

This is where the revolution started and where Castro will be buried.
As it is quite south, I could feel the heat and it was much
warmer than other cities.

26th July 1953

Moncada Barracks where the first attack started.
See the bullet spots on the building.

Cementerio Santa Efigenia
where Jose Marti is buried and Castro will be buried.
It was being prepared when I visited.

Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca
(Castillo del Morro)
A world heritage site built in the 17th century
as a military fortress by the bay.

The vintage cadillac taxi that took us around the city.

A means of transportation for the locals.
Tourists cannot use this bus. What a shame!

El Sanctuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre
This church is in El Cobre about 30km
away from Santiago which I took a separate visit.
 A pilgrimage for the faithful.

Virgen de la Caridad
(Virgin of Charity)
She is the patron saint of Cuba.
