Paul Klee

Tate Modern
13/2/14

I enjoyed it but not in an engaging manner. There was a beauty of being free and curious in his work. I went for the second time to see Klee and I think I appreciated his work more than the first time.

Reith Lecture 2013: Grayson Parry

Only just discovered the joy of Reith Lectures!
This year is by Grayson Parry, you either love him or hate him. Lectures are interesting as he brings art to our eye level and also discusses many controversial and commercial aspects of contemporary art. He might change my view or educated me to accept contemporary art as what it is.

I have uploaded the links of each lecture, so please just click to listen. Enjoy it!

Summer exhibition 2013

It was good fun to see lots of random work from diverse group of people.
Interestingly paintings were still far more popular catch than prints for obvious reasons
but great to see different mediums on display. Grayson Parry's large scale tapestries
were very good and thought provoking.
Maybe there is hope for me too!

E Munch

@ Tate Modern
28 June - 14 October 2012

A replica by Sae-Won!
I have to say, I really enjoyed his exhibition when I did not expect
to be surprised and heard 'Scream' did not come!
So I decided to paint my version of 'Scream' and
I plan to paint a parody version of it too.

Metamorphosis- Titian 2012

11 July- 23 September 2012
@ National Gallery

A very clever and interesting collaboration of three artists

Chris Ofili
Conrad Shawcross
Mark Wallinger

It was a cross over of art, dance, and music in its various forms.
I am a fan of Chris Ofili and it was a delightful occasion to see his
very recent paintings.

Shakespeare's Globe 2012

A brilliant play of The two gentlemen of Verona. Acted by two male actors covering about 8 characters. They have finished their show at the globe but look out for Two Gents Productions. Excellent combo actors!

Rachmaninov

Philharmonia orchestra @ royal festival hall

Conductor... Leif Segerstam
Piano... Denis Matsuev

Sibelius Nightride and Sunrise
Rachmaninov Piano concerto no. 2
Tchaikovsky Symphony no. 2

Rachmaninov Piano concerto no. 2 is one of my favourite pieces and it always makes my hair stand whenever I listen to especially live. This was the main piece I went for tonight. I go to listen to this piece at least once a year and interestingly someone will be playing it. A piece in demand by londoners!

I also love Rachmainiov's Piano concerto no.3, which many people will remember through the film 'Shine'. One of the most demanding piano work for performers to accomplish. The pianist's play was very sharp and clean. I will certainly look out for him again. For Rachmaninov fans, pianist, Nikolai Lugansky is another Rachmaninov player who appears is London quite frequently.

meditation...

I wrote after seeing Richter's exhibition that I wanted to paint.
I managed to get my acts together and equipped myself with some basics.
I have chosen acrylic paints for practical reasons.
I must say the act of painting itself is so relaxing that it almost feels like
meditation, which I needed today. I got carried away painting for hours!

Both paintings unfinished...
Left one is Richter inspired
Right one is Hockney inspired

A bigger picture.. D Hockney

I absolutely enjoyed his exhibition at RA.
21 Jan- 9 Apr 2012

It was nice that he actually recorded the audio guide.
How many artist's voice do you get to hear as most of them are dead!
These are the quotes I liked;

Nature cannot be controlled but followed

Planned to be spontaneous

Technology need mad imaginative people to use it

This was the highlight of the exhibition.
You can feel his energy from the size of the painting.
The colourings was just amazing although
after 2 hours your eyes can get a bit tired.

I was surprised to know that he was commissioned
to paint for this exhibition.
Excellent evening out!

Classical Spectacular!

It was a very over the top show but very entertaining!
The music was excellent and always nice with good companies.
Lighting, fireworks, dancers and balloons!

@ Royal Albert Hall

Artist herself in her own installation work, 1960s

Artist herself now in her own installation
Really cool room!

It was a very unusual and interesting exhibition,
well worth a visit and more than once.
 Be prepared to be surprised!

In line with her exhibition the members bar was serving
Japanese food and this wonderful cocktail!
Green tea sake and ginger martini...yummm!

Totem

Cirque du Soleil
@ Royal Albert Hall

A modern twist to a circus...
that will be an understatement but the show made me
recall the excitements I had when I first saw a circus as a little girl.
An excellent show by extremely talented people.

This was the stage which was transformed a number of times during the night.

The celling of RAH

I had a chance to see Cirque du Soleil a few years ago
but I did not manage to get the tickets but so glad to have seen the show.
I actually went to see this yesterday.
The whole weekend felt very busy having to work but
I was with a good company which made all the difference.
I cannot ask for more!!

Without Warning

Without Warning
@ the old vic tunnels

31/ 01- 11/02/ 2012

I did not know what to make of the performance/play.
It was a very experiential piece which left a lot of room
for different interpretations.
Thinking back now, I do not think I even have to give meanings to
what I saw but to remain with the feelings that came to me
at the moment may be enough to enjoy the piece.
A very good use of sounds, lighting and space!

Walking towards the old vic tunnels

the tunnel bar

Some people may remember Shunt Lounge in London Bridge
which is now shut but the old vic tunnels gives you a similar feel
if you have missed Shunt Lounge.
I do remember having lots of fun at Shunt Lounge many years ago!

St Martin in the fields

First classical concert of the year.
It has been such awhile I was here for a concert.
Never sat upstairs but the acoustic was still very good.

Mozart Requim by candlelight
Hendal
Vivaldi

I cannot rememeber the names of the pieces played but Mozart's Requim was
the main piece for the night though Vivaldi's work was very good too.
I am listening to Classical music with an interesting translation into metal music.
The two genre seems far apart but you can make the connection which I got to realise
recently through someone special who wore a very nice pink shirt!
